Onomatopoeia

is the making of a word from the sound of the thing or action which the sound names

Alliteration

is the repetition of the same letter at the beginning of two or more words.

Metaphor

is a comparison which does not use the words like or as

Rhyme

correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, esp. when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.

Rhythm

a strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound.

Consonance

is the repletion of a consonant sound in a line of poetry.

Denotation

he dictionary definition of a word.

Connotation

of the same words goes beyond this. It depends on our associations and experiences with that word.

Personification

the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form.

Assonance

is the repetition of the vowel sounds in a line of poetry.

Simile

is a comparison showing a likeness between two things; it uses the words "like" or "as".

End Rhyme

is the repetition of like sounds at the end of a line in poetry

Internal Rhyme

is the repetition of sounds within a line of poetry.
