Median Plane

a longitudinal plane that divides the body into right and left halves (from front to back)

Sagittal Plane

Any plane parallel to the median dividing the body into right and left positions

Frontal Plane

A vertical plane passing longitudinally through the body from side to side at right angles to the median plane that divides the body into front and back

Transverse Plane

The horizontal plane. A section at right angles to the frontal plane

Anterior

Situated in front of

Posterior

Situated in back of

Ventral

At or toward the front of body: toward the belly (on tongue, underside)

Dorsal

Of or near the back; behind. Also pertaining to the top of the foot, top of the tongue, or back of the hand. Used same as posterior

Superior

Situated Above

Inferior

Below or toward the tail end of the body. Used same as "caudal

Caudal

Pertaining to the distal end of the body "Tail

Cephalic

Pertaining to the head end of the body

Cranial

Pertaining to the cranium, or to the superior end of the body

extending far below the surface
