cell membrane
in all cells; it works as a barrier, lets things in and out, and keeps thing things in; made of phospholipid bilayer; its like the dry walls and the door
phospholipid bilayer
lets everything in the cell made of this be interchangeable
cell wall
found in plants, fungi, prokaryotic, and some protists; keeps in water; made of celllose in plants, and chitin in fungi; like the support beam
nucleus
found in eukaryotic cells, both animal and plant; where ribosomes are made; like the boss's office
chromatin (DNA)
found in all cells, only in nucleus in eukaryotic; is the information needed in a cell; made of nucleotides; like the instruction manual
nucleolus
found in eukaryotic cells; where ribosomes are made; like the machine maker (of ribosomes)
nuclear envelope
found in eukaryotic cells; surrounds the nucleus; has a double membrane; like the windows and walls in boss' office
microtubules
found in all cells; moves things around, maintains the shape of the cell, flagela and cilia are made of these; found all throughout the cell, are hollow tubes of protein tubes; like the conveyor belt
microfilaments
found in all cells; helps cells move, anchor things to the microtubles; made of protein threads, are everywhere in the cell; like nails, screws or duct tupe
cytoplasm
found in all cells; gell of the celll, all the stff (liquid and solid) in the cell exept nucleus; like the inside of the factory outside of boss's office
ribosomes
found in all cells; produces proteins according to the nucleus; made of RNA and protein, found everywhere; like the robot, small machine within the factory
rough endoplasmic reticulum
found in eukaryotic cells; centralized location for protein protection; a folded membrane covered in ribosomes, can make vesicles by pinching off a part; like the main factory workroom
smooth endoplasmic reticulum
found in eukaryotic cells; breaks down toxic chemicals, makes molecules that aren't protein; no ribosomes on it, located a lot in the liver, more tubular than Rough ER; like a drug inspector
golgi apparatus
found in plant and animal; modifies sorts and packages proteins and other materials from the ER, for storage or to go out of the cell; sack of closely opposed membrane ER; like the UPS system
lysosomes
found in eukaryotic cells, animal (not usually in plants); clean up crew, breaks down/digest small molecules; can be dangerous if it pops it wll kill the cell, can lead to Tay-sachs disease; like the recycle bin
vacuoles
found mostly in plant (some animal); store water, salts, protein, carbs; like the storage room in a factory
chloroplasts
found plant cells some algae; captures energy from sun and converts it to chemical energy (photosynthesis), makes glucose-sugar that mitochoria use; have their own DNA capsules; like solar panel
mitochondria
found in eukaryotic, plants and animals; converts chemical energy and food compounds into energy that can be used for the whole cell, turning sugar into burst of energy, cellular resparation; two layers of membrane, smooth outer membrane, folded inner mem
plasmodesmata
found eukaryotic cells in plants; connection between adjacent cells; like a sidewalk to the cells
desmosomes
found eukaryotic cells, animal; connection between adjacent cell; like a sidewalk to the cells
vesicles
found in eukaryotic cells; for transport of things; small membrane sack; like a cardboard box or envelope
