Turf-toe

A - Sprain of metatarsophalangeal joint of great toe

Where would you take a pulse to determine circular impairment?

behind the medial malleolus (posterior tibial artery) and on the dorsum of the foot (dorsalis pedis)

How would you manage a bruised heel?

the athlete should not step on the heel for 24 hours. After the third day, warm whirlpools, ultrasound, or cold therapy can be done.

What signs and symptoms are present in plantar fascia?

- pain in medial heel, moves to the central portion of the fascia
- complains of start up pain (sticking pain)
- heel spur may develop
- pain with forced dorsiflexion

Where does the most common acute fracture of the foot occur?

base of the fifth metatarsal (Jones Fracture)

What ligament is tested by the anterior drawer test and how is the test performed?

anterior talofibular.
- grasp the lower tibia in one hand and the calcaneus in the palm of the other hand. The tibia is pushed backwards as the calcaneus is pulled forward.

How would you manage arch problems?

Insure that the athlete's shoes fit properly.
- use warm whirlpool at 1-5 until the initial inflammation has gone down
- use an exercise program to strengthen the muscles that cross the arch.

How would you place a pad to elevate the depressed metatarsal head when managing metatarsalgia?

the metatarsal pad is placed behind and not under the metatarsal heads.

What condition in the foot most resembles Osgood Schlatter disease in the knee?

Sever's disease or apophysitis pf the calcaneus

List four exercises that can be included in the beginning stage of a foot rehabilitation program.

-writing the alphabet
-picking up objects
-ankle circumduction
- gripping and spreading the toes

List four signs and symptoms of Morton's toe neuroma

- burning paresthesia in the forefoot
- radiating pain from distal metatarsal heads to the tips of the toes
- radiating pain may be duplicated by palpation between the distal metatarsals heads
-the skin between the metatarsal heads may be numb
