Battle of the Wilderness

A major battle that took place on may 5th 1864. The two armies fought so hard the forest caught fire, this lead to many soldiers being burnt alive or injured.

Spotsylvania

A battle that took place on may 12th 1864 that caused heavy death amongst the Union army, the Northerners protested the heavy loss but Lincoln said to keep fighting even if it took all summer.

Cold Harbor

Another clash of the armies that took place in cold harbor which was just eight miles from Richmond. There were around 7,000 Union soldiers dead within the first hour.
