agencies that provide care for terminally ill people with life expectancies of 6 months or less.

Mental Health

facilities that treat patients with mental disorders and disease

Rehabilitation

facilities that are located in hospitals, clinics, and/or private centers

Health Maintenance organizations

provide total health care directed toward preventative health care.

Industrial health care centers

found in large companies or industries

School health services

found in schools and colleges and provide emergency care for victims of accidents and sudden illness

World Health Organization

an international agency sponsored by the United Nations

National Institutes of Health

involved in research on disease

Centers for disease control

is concerned with causes, spread, and control of diseases in populations

Food and Drug Administration

a federal agency responsible for regulating food and drug products sold to the public

Occupational Safety and Health Administration

it establishes and enforces standards that protect from job related injuries and illnesses

Health departments

provide health services as directed by the Department of Health and Human Services and also provide specific services needed by the state or local community

Voluntary agencies

provides health services at national, state, and local level

Non-profit agencies

same as voluntary agencies

Health Insurance Plan

helps pay for people's health care bills

Preferred provider organization

a type of health insurance plan usually provides by large industries or companies to their employees

Medicare

provides hospital care for almost all individuals over the age of 65 and for any person with a disability who has received Social Security benefits for a least 2 years

Medicaid

a medical assistance program operated by individual states.

Worker's Compensation

a health insurance plan providing treatment for workers injured on the job

Managed care

an approach that has developed in response to rising health care costs

Independent living facility

a place where people live when they are unable to maintain their homes

Assisted living facility

a place where people live when they are unable to care for themselves or their homes

Optical centers

a rehabilitation service for visually impaired patients

Laboratories

a place where they analyze tests to diagnose the conditions the patients have

US Department of Health and Human Services

a cabinet department of the United States government with the goal to protecting the health of Americans

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

improves the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare for Americans.

covers medical expenses that other big health insurance companies can not cover.

Tricare

provides the military with health care

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act

federal law that requires all health care settings to ensure privacy and security of patient information. Also requires health insurance to be accessible for working Americans and available when changing employment.
