A type of irony where the reader knows something that the characters do not.
Point of View
The perspective from which a story is told
1st Person
POV when the narrator is a character in the story
3rd Person Omniscient
POV when the narrator enters the minds of all the characters
3rd Person Limited
POV when the narrator is limited to the mind of one or a few characters
3rd Person Objective
POV when the narrator does not enter a single mind
Symbolism
The use of something that means itself while standing for something larger
Universal
A symbol that is common to all of Western society
Contextual
A symbol used in a particular way by an individual author
Tone
The author's attitude towards the subject
Mood
The feeling that the writer creates for the reader
Theme
The author's observation about life, written as a sentence in a universal manner.
Climax
Point of greatest tension and emotional intensity.
Crisis
The turning point in the conflict / plot of the story.
