Board of Certification (BOC)

the certifying organization for the athletic trainer

Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)

allied health care professional educated and trained in the prevention , assessment , treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries.

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

A specialist who designs and implements safe and effective strength and conditioning programs

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)

An international, independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services that develops customer-focused standards for areas such as behavioral healthcare, aging services, child and youth services, and medical rehabilitation programs and accredits such programs on the basis of its standards

Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)

Alternative means of health care in which people or their employers are charged a set amount and the HMO provides health care and covers hospital costs.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)

group of healthcare providers that provide services to a specific group, often at a reduced rate

National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA)

a not-for-profit organization with more than 27,000 members nationwide that is committed to the advancement, encouragement, and improvement of the athletic training profession

physical fitness program

a method of exercise designed to prepare an individual to become physically able to do the activities he or she wishes to do in daily life, without causing undue physical stress

Physical therapy Aide

an individual who is not licensed but is able to perform clerical tasks under the direct supervision of a physical therapist or physical therapy assistant.

Physical therapy assistant

A health care specialist who works with physical therapists to assist in developing treatment plans for the rehabilitation of injury.
