Cell Test

Cell Membrane

In all cells, regulates passage of materials in and out of the cell

Cell Wall

In plants, stucture that sorrounds and protects plant cells, supports and provides shape

Nucleous

In both, Brains or controls the center of the cell, large usually circular organelle - carries chromosomes and controls cell division

Nuclear Membrane

like cell membrane - controls movement of material in and out of the nucleus

Nucleolus

Inside(center) of the nucleous, makes ribosomes

Chromatin

Fine strands of DNA found in the nucleus

Chromosome

Chromatin that has thickened for cell reproduction

Cytoplasm

A fluid that takes up space between organelles filled with microtubes and filaments that hold the sturcture of a cell

Vacuoles

Storage sacs of the cell - hold water and food, bigger in plants, small in animals.

Ribosomes

site where proteins ar made (protein factory), made of RNA, DNA instructs ribosomes which proteins to make.

Endoplasmic Reticulum

2 types - rough & smooth. involved with transport of proteins, often called protein plumbing.

Giolgi Bodies

Transports vesticles from the ER then moves them outside of the cell. Layered trash - sacs in cell - waste and proteins

Lysosomes

Filled with enzymes - break down larger molecules to smaller ones - aids in digestion. Suicide Sacs (if one bursts it will kill the cell)

Mitochondria(power plant)

Takes fuel and turns it into energy for the cell (location of Cellular respiration). Cristae - folded surfaces inside mitochondria that increase work are in loss space= more energy less space taken.

Plastids

Only in plants, stores pigments. Leucoplasts, chromoplasts (why we have red tomatoes or orange carrots). Chloroplasts - make plants green, location where photosyntheis occurs.

Cilla

A hair-like projections on cell membranes

Flagella

A long tail used in locomotion

Centrioles

Animal cells only, involved in cell reproduction
