Network

A group of computers and other devices that is connected by some type of transmission media

Peer to Peer

A network model where all computers on the network are equal and data may be shared from computer to computer.

Client/Server

A network architecture in which a system is divided between server tasks performed on the instructions received from clients, requesting information.

LAN

Network that is confined to a small space

MAN

Network that extends beyond more than one building

WAN

A computer network that spans a wider area than does a local area network

Client

User on a network

Server

A computer on the network that manages shared resources

Topology

The physical layout of a computer network

Data packet

Distinct unites of data that are exchanged between nodes

Node

Any device that is hooked up to a computer network

Protocol

A standard method or format for communication between networked devices

Addressing

The scheme for assigning a unique identifying number to every node on the network

Allow remote users to connect to the network
