experimental probability
The ratio of the number of times an event occurs to the number of trials, or times, that an activity is preformed.
rate of change
A comparison of two quantities by divison.
mean
The sum of all the values in a data set divided by the number of data values. Also called the average.
median
For an ordered data set with an odd number of values, the median is the middle value. For an ordered data set with an even number of values, the median is the average of the two middle values.
mode
The value or values that occur most frequently in a data set; if all values occur with same frequency, the data set is said to have no mode.
range (of data)
The difference of the greatest an least values in the data set.
linear function
A function that can be written in the form y=mx+b, where x is the independent variable and m and b are real numbers. Its graph is a line
slope
A measure of the steepness of a line. If (x,y) and (x2,y2) are any two points on the line, the slop of the line, known ass m, is represented by the equation m=y2-y1 over x2-x1
parallel
Lines in the same plane that do not intersect.
perpendicular
Intersecting to form 90 degree angles.
x-intercept
The first number in an ordered pair, which indicates the horizontal distance of a point from the origin on the coordinate plane
y-intercept
The y-coordinate(s) of the point(s) where a graph intersects the y-axis
standard form of linear equation
Ax + By=C, where A, B, and C are real numbers
slope-intercept form of linear equation
The slope-intercept form of a linear equation is y=mx+ b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept
system of linear equations
A system of equations in which all of the equations are linear
