Source Side Device

Any device or equipment that breaks the flow of electricity in the overhead power lines

Substation, Switch, Recloser, Sectionalizer, Fuse

What are the five source side devices?

Substation

This is an area in which switches, transformers, and circuit breakers are localized. It also changes the voltages to and from transmission levels.

Switch

This is a pole mounted device in which all blades or breaks open together with one handle

Automatic Recloser

This is a pole mounted, oil filed switch that will open a circuit automatically if faulted and then may close automatically to try to complete the circuit again.

Sectionalizer

This is pole mounted, oil filled switch that will open a circuit automatically if faulted and then may close automatically to try to complete the circuit again. This is smaller.

Fuse

This is a device that opens the circuit in case of a short or overload

Capacitor Bank

This is used to make up for momentary lulls in the electrical system

Regulator Bank

This is a pole mounted device that is used to correct primary voltage

Riser Pole

This type of electrical pole changes the wires from above ground to below ground or vice versa

Cankers

These are areas of dead, sunken, or missing bark
