Elements of Plot

Exposition

The beginning of a fictional story where we learn who the characters are, the setting, and the conflict.

Characters

People, animals, or other creatures in the story

Setting

when and where the story takes place

Conflict

The problem in the story (if you know the conflict, it helps identify the climax.)

Protagonist

The main character in a fictional story.

Antagonist

The character(s) who has a conflict with the protagonist.

Rising Action

The events that happen in a story before the climax.

Climax

The turning point of the story. It is usually when the conflict changes or is resolved.

Falling Action

The events following the climax and lead to the story's end.

Resolution

The final part of the story where you find out what happens to the characters after the conflict is resolved. It can be positive or negative.

Plot
