Topic 3 - Multiplication Properties

Commutative Property

Changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
6 x 7 = 7 x 6

Associative Property

Changing the grouping of factors does not change the product.
(2 x 3) x 5 = 2 x (3 x 5)

Identity Property

Any number multiplied by one is that number.
10 x 1 = 10

Zero Property

Any number multiplied by zero is zero.
10 x 0 = 0

Distributive Property

When you have larger factors to multiply, you can break-apart a factor into 2 smaller numbers, multiply them by the other factor, then add the smaller products back together to get the larger product..
4 x 13 = 4 x 6 + 4 x 7 = 24 + 28 = 52

100 x 1 = 100

Identity Property

3 x 1 = 3

Identity Property

15 x 1 = 15

Identity Property

1 x 9 = 9

Identity Property

23 x 1 = 23

Identity Property

1 x 43 = 43

Identity Property

0 x 10 = 0

Zero Property

100 x 0 = 0

Zero Property

0 x 14 = 0

Zero Property

5 x 0 = 0

Zero Property

0 x 1 = 0

Zero Property

(2 x 6) x 10 = 2 x (6 x 10)

Associative Property

13 x (1 x 0) = (13 x 1) x 0

Associative Property

(1 x 3) x 5 = 3 x (1 x 5)

Associative Property

(1 x 2 x 3) x 4 = 1 x (2 x 3 x 4)

Associative Property

6 x 12 x (2 x 2) = (6 x 12) x 2 x 2

Associative Property

3 x 20 = (3 x 12) + (3 x 8) = 36 + 24 = 60

Distributive Property

5 x 15 = (5 x 4) + (5 x 11) = 20 + 55 = 75

Distributive Property

5 x 10 = (5 x 4) + (5 x 6) = 20 + 30 = 50

Distributive Property

11 x 15= (11 x 7) + (11 x 8) = 77 + 88 =165

Distributive Property

2 x 10 = 10 x 2

Commutative Property

3 x 4 = 4 x 3

Commutative Property

6 x 8 = 8 x 6

Commutative Property

20 x 3 = 3 x 20

Commutative Property

6 x 7 = 7 x 6
