Bureaucracy

An organization of government departments, agencies and offices

Administration

A team of executive branch officials

Cabinet

An important group of policy advisers to the President. Department secretaries and the Attorney General force the core of the cabinet.

White House Staff

President's most trusted advisers and assistants. They give the President advise and info about national security, the economy,and other subjects

Vice -President

The Constitution gives him no duties aside from presiding over the Senate. The President decides if he or she will have an active role. If the President dies he/she takes over, if the President becomes ill he will act as President

Special Advisory Groups

Help the President make decisions on domestic and foreign policy. The most important groups are the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the National Security Council (NSC)

Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

Decides how much the President's policy goals will cost

National Security Council (NSC)

Helps the President make foreign policy. Includes military officers and advisers from other gov agencies and departments concerned with foreign affairs and national defense

Homeland security

To safeguard the U.S. from terrorism.

Executive Agencies

Under direct control of the President. Examples, NASA and the EPA

Regulatory Commissions

Makes and carries out rules for a certain business or economic activity. They also settle disputes between businesses they regulate. Examples, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC)

Government Corporations

Provide public services that may be too risky or expensive for a private business to undertake. US. Postal Service is an example

Civil Service System

Congress set this up in 1883.Government works workers are hired on the basis of merit. The Civil Service System provides for a group of trained workers who stay on the job from administration to administration
