Science Chapter 1

Organisms are classified into a series of_______________. Each group becomes more and more _________________________.

groups, specific

What are characteristics of mammals?

They breathe air with lungs
They have hair
They are warm-blooded
They give milk to their young
They give birth to live babies

How are Archebacteria and Protists alike?

Both of them live as single cells.

Characteristics of Lizards

Have skeletons and a backbones, hearts, scales, and four legs. Their legs stick out on the sides.

Characteristics of Dinosaurs

Characteristics of baby reptiles

They are cold blooded, have scales, hatch from eggs and don't feed their young.

Characteristics of bay mammals

They are warm blooded, have hair, and are fed by their mother

How are amphibians different from all other vertebrates?

Adult amphibians do not look like baby amphibians. They undergo a process called metamorphosis (change). Like reptiles, amphibians hatch from eggs and must take care of themselves right away.

How are vertebrates different from invertebrates?

Vertebrates have backbones and invertebrates don't.

What is a mollusk

Characteristics of Conifers.

They are vascular and produce seeds, but no flowers.

Characteristics of flowering plants.

They are vascular and produce seeds and flowers.

How do conifers reproduce?

Using cones and seeds

Some protists live in the intestinal tracts of animals. Does this help or harm them?

The help some organisms by breaking down the foods they eat. These organisms would die without the protists in their intestinal tracts.

How are fungi different from plants?

Plants make their own food, but fungi don't. Instead, they use hair-like structures to absorb and digest food.

Why do bakers use yeast to bake bread?

Yeast takes in sugar from the bread dough. It releases carbon dioxide which causes dough to rise.
