Incisal edge
The cutting edge of an anterior tooth
Interproximal surface
Face toward or away from the midline and contact the interproximal surfaces of adjacent teeth
Medial surface
Interproximal surface of a tooth that faces the midline
Distal surface
Interproximal surface of a tooth that faces away from the midline
Facial surface
The surface of a tooth that faces the inside of the cheeks or lips; may be further divided into labial and buccal surfaces
Labial surface
Facial surface of an anterior tooth that faces the inside of the lips
Buccal surface
Surface of a posterior tooth that faces the inside of the cheeks
Lingual surface
Faces the tongue or the roof of the mouth
Palatal surface
The surface of a maxillary tooth that faces the roof of the mouth; the palatal surface may also be referred to as the lingual surface, but the lingual surface must never be called the palatal surface
