Ion

An atom or bonded group of atoms that has a positive or negative charge

Cation

A positively charged ion

Anion

A negatively charged ion

Monatomic Ion

A one-atom ion

Polyatomic Ion

An ion made up of more than one atom

Binary Compound

A compound composed of two different elements

Tertiary Compound

A compound composed of three different elements

Acid

Any compound that forms H+ ions in solution

Binary Acid

An acid composed of only two elements, one of which is hydrogen

Oxyanion

A polyatomic ion composed of an element, usually a nonmetal, bonded to one or more oxygen atoms

Oxyacid

An acid that contains both a hydrogen atom and an oxygen
