Biodiversity

the number of different species in a given area

Gene

a piece of DNA that codes for a specific trait can be inherited by an organism's offspring

keystone species

species that are critical(key) to the functioning of an ecosystem

Ecotourism

a form of tourism that supports the conservation and sustainable development of ecologically unique areas

Endangered species

species that is likely to become extinct if protective measures are not taken immediately

threatened species

a species that has a declining population and that is likely to become endangered if it is not protected

exotic species

a species that is not native to a particular region

poaching

illegal hunting. fishing, harvesting and trade of wild life

endemic species

species that are native too and found only within an area

most threatened areas of high species diversity on earth

captive

breeding species in captivity, with the hope of reintroducing populations to their natural habitats

germ plasm

any form of genetic material such as that contained within the reproductive or germ cells, cells of animals and plants

endangered species act 1973

a law designed to protect plants and animals were listed as endangered and threatened species in the united states

species recovery plan

plans often proposed to protect or restore habitats for each species under the endangered species act

habitat conservation plan

a plan that attempts to protect one or more species across large areas of land through trade offs or cooperative agreements biodiversity treaty

biodiversity treat

a result of the Earth Summit with the goal to preserve biodiversity and insure the sustainability and fair use of genetic resource in all countries
