S8P2d - Heat Transfer

Conduction

The transfer of heat between objects that are touching. Energy is passed from atom to atom through direct contact.

Convection

the transfer of heat/thermal energy by the movement of particles from one place to another in a fluid (gas or liquid).

Radiation

the transfer of heat through space

Temperature

The measurement of the average kinetic energy of an objects particles

Conductor

an object that heat can move through easily

Insulator

A material that DOES NOT conduct heat well.

Thermal Energy

the energy that an object contains due to the kinetic energy of all of its atoms or molecules

Thermal Expansion

an increase in the size of something when its temperature increases.

Thermal Equilibrum

HOT TO COLD. Thermal energy will move from a hot object to a cold object until they are equal in temperature

Kinetic Energy

Energy of motion

Heat Transfer

the movement of thermal energy between objects at different temperatures
