Drawing

The result of running an implement that leaves a mark over a surface; a work of art created in this manner

Support

A surface on which a two-dimensional work of art is made

Charcoal

A form of carbon produced by partially burning wood or other organic matter; it can be used as a drawing implement

Crayon

A small stick of colored wax, chalk, or charcoal

Silverpoint

A drawing medium in which a silver tipped instrument inscribes lines on a surface that has been coated with a ground or pigment

Chalk

A form of soft limestone that is easily pulverized and can be sued as a drawing implement

Dry Mediums

Drawing materials that do not involve the application of water or other liquids

Ground

The surface on which two-dimensional work is created; a coat of liquid material applied to a surface that serves as a base for drawing or painting.

Stylus

A pointed, needle-like tool used in drawing, printmaking, making impressions in electronic media, and so on

Umber

a kind of earth that has a reddish or yellowish-brown color

Wash

A thin, watery film of paint, especially watercolor, applied with even, sweeping movements of the brush

Monochromatic

Literally "one-colored"; descriptive of images that are executed in a single color or with so little color contrast as to appear uniform in hue

Calligraphy

Beautiful handwriting; penmanship; ornamental writing with a pen or brush

nib

The point of a pen; the split and sharpened end of a quill pen

Papyrus

A writing surface made from the papyrus plant

Fluid Medium

Liquid-based drawing materials

Sanguine

Blood-colored, ruddy; cheerful and confident

Binder

a material that binds surfaces together

Quills

A pen made from a large, stiff, feather

Conte Crayon

A wax crayon with a hard texture

Cartoon

Originally, a preparatory drawing made or a fresco, usually on paper and drawn to scale; a drawing that caricatures or satirizes and even or person of topical interest

Pencil

a rod-shaped drawing instrument with an inner shaft that is usually made of graphite

Gum

a sticky substance found in many plants, used to bind pigments as found, for example, in silver point,chalk, and pastel drawings

Gum Arabic

a gum obtained from the African acacia plant

Graphite

A soft, black from of carbon used as a drawing implement

Pastel

A drawing implement made by grinding coloring matter, mixing it with gum, and forming it into a crayon

Linear

Determined or characterized by the use of line

Ocher

a dark yellow derived from an earthy clay

Pigment

Coloring matter that is usually mixed with water, oil, or other substances to make paint
