Line

Geometric shapes

Circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles. We see them in architecture and manufactured items

Nonlinear perspective

Is the method of showing depth that incorporates position, and overlapping

Organic shapes

Leaf, seashells, flowers. See them in nature and with characteristics that are free flowing, informal and irregular

Linear perspective

Is the method of using lines to show the illusion of depth in a picture.

One-point perspective

When lines created by the sides of tables or building look like that are pointing to the distance and they all meet at one point on the horizon. Uses one vanishing point

Two-point perspective

The lines look like they are meeting at two points on the horizon line. Uses two vanishing points

Is the actual texture of an object.

Implied texture

Where a piece of art is made to look like a certain texture

Tint

Adding white to color paint to create lighter values such as light blue or pink

Shade

Adding black to paint to create dark values such as dark blue or dark red

Surrealism

Originally a literacy movement, it explored dreams, the unconscious, the element of chance and multiple levels of reality

Characteristics of surrealism

Reaction to chaos of WW1, influence of freud, impossible scale, reversal of natural laws, double images, juxtaposition

Is the attitudes and behavior that are characteristic of a particular social group or organization
