Actual line

lines that are continuous and physically present in a design

Crosshatching

To create shading or the illusion of 3D with two or more sets of intersecting parallel lines.

Implied Line

A line that is completed by the viewer; a discontinuous line that the viewer perceives as being continuous; a line suggested by series of points or dots

Vertical lines in artworks imply what feel or emotion?

Psychic line

created when there is no real line, but the placement of the objects
causes the viewer to look in a certain direction.

Contour line

line used to define the outside of the form.

Gesture line

lines drawn to show an expressive movement or pose, describing the action is more important than accurate drawing

Stipple drawing

The creation of shading (grays) by placing dots on a page. More dots creates darker gray and less dots create lighter gray

Lost and found contour

A description of a form in which an object is revealed by distinct contours in some areas while other edges simply vanish or dissolve into the ground.

Cross Contour

Lines that appear to wrap around a form thus making it appear to have volume.
