epidemiology

the science that deals with why, wen, and where diseases occur and how they are transmitted in a human community

atrophy

a decrease in the size of cells with subsequent decrease in the size of the affected tissue or organ; wasting away

biopsy

the removal and microscopic examination of tissue from the living body for diagnosis

deterioration

the process or state of growing worse; disintegration or wearing away

dysplasia

alteration in size, shape, and organization of cells due to chronic irritation or inflammation

hyperplasia

increase in the number of cells due to an increase in the frequency of cell division

hypertrophy

increase in the size of cells without cell division

metastasis

the transfer of disease from one part of the body to another that is not directly connected with it

necrosis

(necros= death; psos= condition)

neoplasm

any abnormal formation or growth
