Cosmetic preparation used to darken, define, and thicken the eyelashes.

Greasepaint

A heavy makeup primarily used for theatrical purposes because it does not shift during performances

Cake makeup

Also known as pancake makeup; a heavy-coverage makeup pressed into a compact and applied to the face with a moistened cosmetic sponge.

Is a term used for the bristles or makeup brushes

Ferrule

The metal part of the brush that attaches the glued bristles to the handle and adds a certain amount of strength to the bristles.

Handle

Comes in a wide range of lengths, and can be made of wood, acrylic, plastic, or metal

Powder brush

A large, soft brush used for blending and applying powder or blush

Blush brush

smaller, more tapered version of the powder brush, excellent for applying powder cheek color.

Concealer brush

Usually narrow and firm with a flat edge, used to apply concealer around the eyes or over blemishes.

Lip brush

Similar to the concealer brush, but smaller and with a more tapered, rounded edge; also used to apply concealer.

Eye shadow brushes

Available in a variety of sizes, from small to large, and in finishes from soft to firm. The softer and larger the brush, the more diffused and blended the shadow will be. A firm brush is better for depositing dense color than for blending it.

Eyeliner brush

Fine, tapered, firm bristles; used to apply liquid liner or shadow to the eyes.

Angle brush

Firm, thin bristles; angled for ease of application of shadow to the eyebrows or shadow liner to the eyes.

Lash comb

Tiny, thin plastic or metal teeth separate eyelashes after mascara application

Brow brush

Spoolie, used to apply mascara to the lashes or brush brows into place

Tweezers

Used to groom eyebrows, remove excess facial hair, and apply false eyelashes

Eyelash curler

Metal or plastic device used to give lift and upward curl to the upper lashes

Used before each application of eye or lip liner pencil to ensure hygienic application.

3 main factors to consider when choosing colors for a client

Skin color, eye color, hair color

Warm colors

Range of colors from yellow and gold through oranges, red-oranges, most reds, and even some yellow-greens.

Cool colors

Encompasses blue, greens, violets, and blue-reds.

Complementary colors for blue eyes

Orange

Red

Complementary color for green eyes

Complementary colors for brown eyes

Are neutral and can wear any color

Muted, softer colors

Best for mature skin as to avoid creating hard lines

Highlight

Produced when a product that is lighter than the clients skin tone is placed on the high planes of the face

Contour

Is formed when a product that is darker than the clients skin tone is used to create shadows over prominent features so they are less noticeable

Usually broader in proportion to its length than the oval face
