Romeo and Juliet Timeline

Sunday Morning (1:1)

The Montagues and Capulets fight in the streets and are broken up by the Prince Escalus. Romeo is pining for Rosaline, who rejected him.

Sunday Afternoon (1:2)

Lord Capulet and Paris talk about Juliet and Paris marrying in the future. Romeo and Benvolio help a Capulet servant read the guest list to the Capulet party. they decide to crash the party.

Sunday Evening (1:3-4)

Lady Capulet tells Juliet that Paris wants to marry her. Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio arrive outside the Capulet house.

Sunday Evening (1:5)

Romeo and Juliet meet at the party and fall in love. Tybalt is angry that Romeo came.

Sunday Late Evening (2:1-2)

Romeo looks for Juliet. Benvolio and Mercutio look for Romeo. The balcony scene: Romeo & Juliet decide they will get married the next day.

Monday Early Morning (2:3)

Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence to arrange his wedding to Juliet.

Monday Late Morning (2:4)

Benvolio and Mercutio are still looking for Romeo. He finds them. The Nurse arrives to speak with Romeo. She warns Romeo that he better not be toying with Juliet because Paris wants to marry her.

Monday Noon (2:5)

Juliet is upset that the Nurse is taking so long. She delivers Romeo's message to Juliet.

Monday Afternoon (2:6)

Romeo and Juliet meet at Friar Lawrence's cell and get married.

Monday Afternoon (3:1)

Benvolio and Mercutio encounter Tybalt. Romeo arrives, and Tybalt challenges him. Romeo refuses. Mercutio fights Tybalt, Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo kills Tybalt. The Prince banishes Romeo.

Monday Late Afternoon (3:2)

Juliet yearns for her night to fall so that Romeo will be able to come back. The Nurse tells her about Tybalt's death and Romeo's banishment.

Monday Early Evening (3:3)

Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that he has been banished. The Nurse comes to bring Romeo to Juliet.

Monday Late Evening (3:4)

Lord Capulet decides that Juliet will marry Paris on Thursday.

Tuesday Morning (3:5)

Romeo leaves for Mantua after spending the night with Juliet. Juliet is told that she must marry Paris on Thursday morning - or else.

Tuesday Late Morning (4:1)

Paris talks to Friar Lawrence about the upcoming wedding. Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence, and he suggests a plan that she take a drug that will make her look dead so se can sneak away with Romeo. Friar Lawrence sends Friar John to Mantua with a message for

Tuesday Early Evening (4:2)

Juliet tells her father she will marry Paris. He moves the wedding ahead a day, to Wednesday, tomorrow.

Tuesday Evening (4:3)

Juliet drinks the potion.

Tuesday Late Evening (4:4)

Lord Capulet supervises the wedding preparations throughout the night. Paris arrives very early in the morning, which was the custom at the time.

Wednesday Morning (4:5)

The Nurse then Lady Capulet then Lord Capulet then Paris then Friar Lawrence discover Juliet's "dead" body. They end the wedding plans and instead discuss plans for her funeral. Juliet is now scheduled wake up on Thursday instead of Friday.

Wednesday Late Evening (5:1)

In Mantua, Romeo learns from Balthasar that Juliet is dead. Romeo buys poison from the Apothecary and leaves for Verona.

Thursday Evening (5:2)

Friar Lawrence learns that Friar John was unable to deliver the message to Romeo. He writes another letter to Romeo and leaves for the crypt to meet Juliet when she wakes.

Thursday Late Evening to Early Morning Friday (5:3)

Paris and a servant arrive at Juliet's tomb. Romeo and Balthasar arrive. Romeo gives Balthasar a letter for his father and sends him away. Paris confronts Romeo. Who reluctantly fights and kills him. Romeo goes into Juliet's tomb, says his last goodbye, a
