Facet

A smooth flat articular surface

Sulcus

A shallow cleft-like groove (often elongated)

An epiphyseal articular region separated from the shaft by the neck (usually the proximal region)

A smooth grooved articular process (shaped like a pulley)

Tuberosity

A large rounded projection (a roughened area)

Foramen

A rounded opening (hole) on the bone surface for blood vessels and or nerves

Any projection or elevation (a bony prominence)

A narrow prominent ridge

Line

A low narrow ridge (less prominent)

Ramus

An (arm like) extension of a bone making an angle to the rest of the structure

Sinus

A chamber within a bone, normally filled with air

Fissure

A narrow slit-like opening

Tubercle

A small rounded projection or process

Canal

A bony passageway through which blood vessels and nerve fibers pass

Articulation

Location where two bones join together

Trochanter

A large irregular rough projection (located only on femur)

Condyle

The broad epiphyseal region with large rounded articular processes

Fossa

A shallow concavity (depression) may be an articulating surface

Spine

A narrow ridge of bone (a sharp slender projection)
