Steering Wheel Freeplay

The amount the steering wheel can be turned, using light pressure, before it meets resistance. It is anindicator of steering system responsiveness.

Worm Bearing Preload

Worm bearing preload is the resistance to rotation created by the load on the worm shaft bearings.

Gear Mesh Preload:

...

Control Valve:

A power steering system valve that controls the application of pressurized fluid against the power piston.
rotary valve you can't adjust it.
spool valve you can adjust it.

Sector Shaft Endplay:

The axial movement of the sector shaft in a standard steering gear.

Pinion Bearing Preload

The resistance that the bearings in a rack and pinion steering gear exert against the pinion gear andshaft, or the force required to overcome that resistance.

Pinion Torque:

Force required to move the pinion of a rack and pinion steering gear against resistance exerted by the rack.

Pitman Arm

The part of a parallelogram steering linkage that joins the linkage to the steering gear sector shaft and transmitsmovement from the steering gear to the linkage.
