Cells

Cell

The smallest part of anything living

Cell membrane

Surrounds a cell holding the parts of the cell together. Allows materials to enter and exit the cell.

Cell wall

Surrounds the cell membrane stiff give plant extra support and protection tough materials

Cytoplasm

All the material of the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus

Nucleus

Contains DNA which controls how the body grows and changes.

Chromosome

Made of materials including DNA carry instructions for the cells to do their jobs

Mitochondria

The cell's power producer; cellular respiration occurs here

Chloroplasts

Use energy in sunlight to turn water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar give plants their green color

Vacuoles

In cells they store and break down materials, in plant cells they may store water

Organelle

A specialized part of a cell having some specific function, a cell organ

Golgi apparatus

A system of membranes that modifies and packages proteins for export by the cell

Lysosome

cell organelle filled with enzymes needed to break down certain materials in the cell
