Onset/ Exposition
The information given at the start of most stories, novels and plays. It includes three parts.
Setting
the time and place during which the story, novel or play occurs; part of the Onset/Exposition
Main Characters
the characters without whom the story, novel or play could not exist; part of the Onset/Exposition
Atmosphere
the mood or feeling the author tries to create within the reader; part of the Onset/Exposition
Conflict
The main problem within the story, novel or play. It is the issue upon which the author focuses at the beginning of a story, and resolves at the end of the story.
Rising Action
A listed series of events that help to build upon the problem, revealing more information about the characters and the plot of the story. These events usually build up until they reach the Climax.
Climax
The point of the most action, drama or suspense within a story, novel or play; the turning point in the story.
Falling Action
The events that follow the climax, and lead to a resolution. These are the events that show a gradual unraveling of the problem given in the conflict.
Resolution/ D�nouement
The solving of the problem given in the conflict, and the listing of details that tell how the story ends.
