Internet

Is a worldwide collection of networks that links millions of businesses, govt. agencies, educational institutions, and individuals.
Widely used for research tool, access to global information and instant communication.

Cable Internet service

provides high-speed internet access through the cable television network via cable modem.

DSL(digital subscriber line)

provides high speed internet connections using regular telephone lines

Fiber to the Premises (FTTP)

uses fiber-optic cable to provide high-speed internet access to home and business users.

Fixed wireless

used a dish shaped antenna on your house or business to communicate with a tower location via radio signals.

WiFi (wireless Fidelity)

uses radio signals to provide a high speed internet connections to wireless computers and devices.

Satellite internet service

used internet connections via satellite to a satellite dish that communicate via satellite modem.

Access Provider

is a business that provides individuals and organizations access to the Internet for free or for a fee.

ISP (internet service provider)

is a regional or national access and provider. That provides internet access to a specific geographical area. Ex. AT&T and Earthlink

OSP ( online service provider)

provides internet access such as instant messaging or their own customized version like (American online) and Microsoft network.

Wireless internet service provider

is a company that provides wireless internet access to computers and mobile devices such as smartphones

IP address

is a number that uniquely identifies each computer or device connected to the internet usually consist of four groups of numbers each separated by a period

Domain Name

is the text version of an IP address

Web (www)

widely used service on the Internet consist of a worldwide collection of electronic documents

Web page

electronic document of the web usually contain graphics, animation, audio and video.

Web site

collection of related web pages

Web server

is a computer that delivers requested Web pages to the computer

Web browser

is application software that allows users to access and view web pages

Web address or URL (uniform resource locator)

a web page has a unique address

Link / hyperlink

is a built in connection to another related web page

Search engine

is a program that finds web sites

Web application

allows users to access and interact with software through a web browser on any computer or device.

Multimedia

refers to any application that combines text with graphics animation, audio, video and virtual reality

Graphics

is a digital representation of nontext information such as drawing, chart or photo

Animation

is the appearance of motion created by displaying a series of still images in sequence.

Virtual reality (VR)

is the use of computers to simulate a real or imagined environment that appears as a three dimensional (3-D) space.

E-Commerce

is a business transaction that occurs over an electronic network such as the internet.

E-mail (electronic mail)

is the transmission of messages and files via a computer network.

Chat

is a real-time typed conversation that takes place on a computer

Voip

enables users to speak to other users over the internet

Netiquette (Internet etiquette)

is the code of acceptable behaviors users should follow while on the internet.
