mercantilism

countries must get gold and silver to be self-sufficient, favorable balance of trade means more gold coming in then going out

mayflower compact

an agreement that Pilgrims wrote and signed describing how they would govern themselves in the Americas

Navigation Acts

Acts passed in 1660 passed by British parliament to increase colonial dependence on Great Britain for trade; limited goods that were exported to colonies; caused great resentment in American colonies.

An English policy of not strictly enforcing laws in its colonies

Small group of Puritans who sought to break away entirely from the Church of England; after initially settling in Holland, a number of English Separatists made their way to Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts in 1620.

a religous group who wanted even greater reform of the church of england

Quakers

Believed in equality; cooperation, religious toleration and pacificism. The separatists and Purtains did not like this.
