Cultural Landscape

the visible imprint of human activity and culture on the landscape

Culture Hearth

a center where cultures developed and from which ideas and traditions spread outward

the amount per unit size, the spacial property of being crowded together.

maps where one dot represents a certain number of a phenomenon such as population

Choropleth Map

a thematic map that uses tones or colors to represent spatial data as average values per unit area

Isoline map

A thematic map with lines that connect points of equal value.

Mental Map

maps that represent the mental image that a person has of an area-even of places we've never been.

Model

the act of representing something (usually on a smaller scale)

Projection

The system used to transfer locations from Earth's surface to a flat map.

Remote Sensing

The acquisition of data about Earth's surface from a satellite orbiting the planet or other long-distance methods.

Time Zones

region of the Earth that has adopted the same standard time
