Microbe

An organism invisible to the naked eye (microscope is needed)

Pathogen

A disease causing agent or organism

Virus

A disease-causing agent that is too tiny to be seen by the ordinary microscope that can only multiply when inside a cell

Host

An organism on which a parasite lives.

Bacteria

microscopic organisms that often play a role in the decay of living things, the process of fermentation, and sometimes in causing disease. They have 3 shapes (spiral, round or rod shape).

Fungi

A eukaryotic organism that has cell walls, uses spores to reproduce, and is a heterotroph that feeds by absorbing its food.

Parasite

An organism that feeds on a living host

Protist

Kingdom composed of eukaryotes that are not classified as plants, animals, or fungi

Protozoa

Microscopic living things. They belong to a group of organisms called protists, which are neither plants nor animals. Examples:
amoebas and paramecia

Mutant

An organism genetically different from its parent.

Binary Fission

A form of asexual reproduction in single-celled organisms by which one cell divides into two cells of the same size

Conjugation

In bacteria, the direct transfer of DNA between two cells that are temporarily joined.

Epidemic

a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community
For example: "a flu epidemic

Pandemic

an epidemic that is geographically widespread over more than one country

Antibiotic

drugs that kill bacteria or slow their growth

Vector

an organism that transmits a disease
