Simile

alitteration

ex- she sells sea shells by the sea shore

Consonance

Similar to alliteration but the sound is not always at the beginning of the word
ex- mike likes his bike

imagery

description that applies to all 5 senses

symbolism

Objects, characters, colors or figures used to represent abstract concepts and ideas

theme

The main idea of a story. It must be a full sentence

tone

the mood or feeling of the poem

Parallelism

When something (word, character, line) is repeated in order to give a certain effect

charachterization

The way that an author tells you about a character
Direct (say something straight out) vs indirect (hinting towards it, STEAL- Speech Thoughts Effects on others Actions Looks)

responding to art through another piece of art

parody

an imitation of one person's style with deliberate exaggeration often used for comic effect.
