Non- Fiction

Books that tell you about real things, people, places, events, and information.

Fiction

Books that are not true and tell a story that the author has created.

Biography

Non-fiction text that tells a true story about somebody's life.

Mystery

A puzzling story where the characters are trying to solve some kind of problem using clues.

Poetry

Writing that usually has a rhythm or rhyme. Meant to be emotional or thought-provoking.

Tall Tale

A funny story with greatly exaggerated or unbelievable elements.

historical fiction

A make-believe story set in the past to tell a story from that time period.

Informational

Text that includes real information and facts about things around the world.

Science Fiction

A story involving science, technology, or the future.

Autobiography

Text that somebody writes to give facts and information about their own life and experiences.

Traditional Literature

Stories that are passed down from one group to another. Folktales, fairy tales, legends, and fables are all examples.

Fable

A story that teaches a moral or lesson usually using talking animals.

Realistic Fiction

A story that is created from the author's imagination, but could actually happen in real life.

Legend

An exaggerated story from the past that makes a person famous for their actions.

Myth

A story that explains the way a group of people view the world. Usually includes gods, goddesses, and good vs. evil.

Adventure

A heroic, fast-paced action story that involves danger, risks, and excitement.

Graphic Novel

Fiction or non-fiction text that tells a story using comic strips.

Nursery Rhyme

A short rhyme, poem, or song that often tells a story.

Fairy Tale

A fictional story involving castles, magic, good vs. evil, or talking animals. Usually has a happy ending.

Fantasy

A fictional story involving monsters, magic, fairies, or other supernatural elements.
