latin genesis translo chapter 1 FULL

In principio creavit Deus caelum et terram

In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth

But the earth was empty and unoccupied, and darkness were over the face of the abyss; and so the Spirit of God was brought over the waters

And God said, "Let there be light." And light there became

And God saw that the light was good; and so he divided the light from the darknesses

God called the light aay, and he called the darkness night. And there was evening and morning, the first day

God also said, "Let there be a sky in the midst of the waters, and let it divide waters from the waters

And God made a firmament, and he divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament. And so it became.

And God called the sky "Heaven." And it was done evening and morning, the second day.

Truly God said, "let the waters that are under heaven be joined together into one place and let the dry land appear." And it was done.

And God called the dry land "Earth" and he called the gathering of the waters, "Seas." And God saw that it was good.

And God says, "Let the earth bring forth green plants, and the plant bring forth seeds of its own kind, and a fruit-bearing tree, producing fruit according to its own kind, whose seed is in its very self, above the earth." And it was so.

Et protulit terra herbam virentem, et facientem semen iuxta genus suum, lignumque faciens fructum, et habens unumquodque sementem secundum speciem suam. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum.

And the earth brought forth green plants, and the plant bring forth seeds of its own kind, and trees producing fruit, in its very self, according to its own species. And God saw that it was good.

And it was done evening and the morning, the third day.

Let there be lights in the firmament of the sky in order that they may divide day and night, and they may be signs for both of the seasons and of the days and years

Let them shine in the firmament of heaven and illuminate the earth." And so it was.

And god made two great lights the greater light in order that it might preside over the day, and the lesser light, presides over the night: and stars,

and God placed them in the sky in order that they might shine over the earth

To govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

And there was evening, and there was morningthe fourth day.

Dixit etiam Deus producant aquae reptile animae viventis et volatile super terram sub firmamento caeli.

And God said, "Let the water bring forth the living creatures (crawly thing), and let birds (flyie thing) fly above the earth underneath the firmament of the sky.

So God created big sea creatures and every living and moving animal which the waters produce according to their own species, and every flying thing according to its own kind. And God saw that it was good.

Benedixitque eis, Deus dicens: Crescite, et multiplicamini, et replete aquas maris: avesque multiplicentur super terram.

God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the waters of the seas, and let the birds multiply over the earth.

And there was evening and morningthe fifth day.

Dixit quoque Deus: Producat terra animam viventem in genere suo, iumenta, et reptilia, et bestias terr secundum species suas. Factumque est ita.

And God also said, "Let the land produce the living animal in its own kind: the livestock, crawly things, and the beasts of the earth, according to their own species." And so it was done.

Et fecit Deus bestias terr iuxta species suas, et iumenta, et omne reptile terr in genere suo. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum.

God made the beasts of the land according to their own species, and the livestock according to their own species, and all the crawly things of the earth of their own kind. And God saw that it was good.

And God said, "Let us make mankind in the image and likeness of us, and let him rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, and all the earth over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the crawly things, which is moved on the ea

And God created man and woman to his own image, in the image of God, he created them.

Benedixitque illis Deus, et ait: Crescite et multiplicamini, et replete terram, et subiicite eam, et dominamini piscibus maris, et volatilibus cli, et universis animantibus, qu moventur super terram.

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every animal which lives above the earth.

Dixitque Deus: Ecce dedi vobis omnem herbam afferentem semen super terram, et universal ligna quae habent in semetipsis sementem generis sui, ut sint vobis in escam:

And God said: "Behold, I have given to you every plant bearing seed above the earth, and all the trees which have in themselves fruit carrying the seed of the tree, to be food for you,

and for all the animals of the land, and for all the flying things of the air, and for everything that moves upon the earth and in which there is a living soul, so that they may have these on which to feed." And thus it was done.

And God saw all things which he made, and behold they were very (strongly) good. And it was done, evening and morning, the sixth day.
