Describe the French & Indian War.

This war was fought because both the French and the British wanted to
control the fur trade. The Indians were caught in the middle. They
sided with the French at first and built forts to try to protect the
fur trade, but it didn't work. The British eventually pushed the
French out of the area (into Canada) and then took over the fur trade.

Describe the Toledo Strip disagreement.

Michigan and Ohio were arguing about a strip of land called the
Toledo Strip. This strip had access to the Maumee River which was a
great port. Both states wanted the strip of land and control over the
port. This disagreement went on for years and delayed statehood.

How was the Toledo Strip disagreement solved? What was the result?

The United States government had to step in. They gave the strip of
land to Ohio and in exchange, Michigan gained the rest of the Upper Peninsula.
