Consists of decoding a message and assigning meaning to it.

Remembering

Involves retaining what has been said, which is critical for the message to have the correct effect.

Evaluating

Involves critically analyzing the message to determine how factual it really is.

Responding

Involves the feedback portion of the communication process and means and exchange of roles.

Communication Model Elements:

Sender, message, medium, receiver, interference, feedback to the sender

Trade Secret

Formula, practice, process, design, instrument, pattern, or compilation of information used by a business to obtain an advantage over competitors or customers.

Field Sketch

Rough drawing of an occupancy that is made during an inspection; used to make a final inspection drawing.

Three key elements to an evacuation plan:

Evacuation Routes, monitor duties, employee/occupant duties

Monitor:

Individual assigned to supervise an evacuation process for a specified area within a structure such as a ward monitor or floor monitor.

Phase 1 Activities:

Involve evacuating a single room.

Phase 2 Activities:

Involve evacuating an entire zone of a building. Close all room and smoke barrier doors first.

Phase 3 Activities:

Involve evacuating an entire floor and zones on the floor above the incident floor. Evacuating the fire floor first.

Phase 4 Activities:

Require that the entire building be evacuated.

Report

Written document, usually in detail and based on observations, describing an event, situation, condition, or evaluation.

Record

Compilation of the known facts regarding an event, situation, condition, something, or some person or group; may contain reports, documents, and evidence that are maintained in individual files; means of preserving knowledge.

File

Organized collection of data, usually related records kept together.
