an author's purpose or reason/intent in writing. (amuse, persuade, inform,or satirize a condition)
Literal Language
(denotation) is used to mean exactly what is written or said. Ex: He was stranded without food and he starved to death.
Metaphor
a direct comparison of two unrelated objects. One of the most common literary devices
Simile
an indirect comparison, where two unrelated objects are being compared to each other.
