Tort

A violation of private law. 3 basic types:intentional tortsnegligent tortsabsolute or strict liability torts.

Intentional torts

based on intentional acts, such as fraud, which is a deliberate act with intent to take deceive or wrongfully take advantage of another. Slander and libel are also intentional torts.

Negligent Torts

based on conduct that is not intentional but nonetheless cause damages, such as a carelessness or a failure to act in accordance with the accepted standard of care, such as negligent hiring, which is based on a level of carelessness in hiring.

Strict Liability Torts

based on conduct that is not intentional or negligent but the law nonetheless holds a person liable for damages regardless of any finding of fault. For example, certain manufacturing defects, even though there is no showing or finding of fault.
