character

A person in the story usually developed to advance the plot, theme or a bigger idea.

conflict

A problem, internal characters mind, outside of characters mind

plot

Sequence of events in a story

resolution

result or conclusion or solution to the conflict. usually at the end of the story.

theme

life lesson of a text, a perception about life or human nature that is the author trying to convey the reader.

Allusion

A reference to another work of literature, person, or event

Connotation

the meaning behind the word, not the definition

Diolouge

conversation between two or more characters

flashback

going back in timeline to learn new information.

foreshadowing

the use of hints and clues to suggest what will happen later in a plot

hyperbole

exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.

Idiom

a group of words that has a special meaning very different from the ordinary meaning.

imagery

Description that appeals to the senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste)

irony

A contradiction between expectation and reality

Metaphor

A comparison of two unlike things without using like or as

Feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for the reader

oxymoron

Using opposite words next to each other for effect,

personification

A figure of speech in which an object or animal is given human feelings, thoughts, or attitudes
