Measurement Vocabulary Terms

Accuracy

A description of how close a measurement is to the true value of the quantity measured.

Density

the mass per unit volume of a substance

Distance

an amount of space between two things or people.

Length

How long something is. The distance from one point to another.Length is measured in units such as inches, feet, centimeters, etc.

Mass

the amount of matter in an object; measured in grams

Measure

To determine the size, amount, or degree of an object by comparison with a standard unit.

Precision

a measure of how close a series of measurements are to one another

Temperature

A measure of how hot (or cold) something is. Units - Degrees - Celsius and Fahrenheit

Time

Length in seconds

International System of Units

A system of measurement based on multiples of ten and on established measures of mass, length, and time.

Volume

The amount of space an object takes up. Measured in Liters

Weight

the force of gravity on an object
