A large landmass on Earth's surface.

Terrace

A flat surface built into a hill for crops.

Globe

A spherical 3d representation of Earth.

Map

A flat 2d representation of Earth.

Equator

The middle line of the latitude of Earth.

Prime Meridian

Runs through the middle of the longitude, Greenwich, England.

Longitude

Imaginary lines running north to south.

Latitude

Imaginary lines running east to west.

Hemisphere

Half of Earth. The equator divides it between north and south.

Scale

How much distance on Earth is shown on the map.

Elevation

The height of a physical feature above sea level.

Cartographer

Someone who creates different kinds of maps.

Relief

The change in elevation from one place to another.

Projection

Ways of showing Earth's curved surface on a flat map.

North Pole

The northernmost point of the Earth's axis.

South Pole

The southernmost point of the Earth's axis.

Northern hemisphere

The Northern half of Earth, divided by the equator.

Southern Hemisphere

The Southern half of Earth, divided by the eqator

Western Hemisphere

The hemisphere west of the Prime Meridian.

Eastern Hemisphere

The hemisphere east of the Prime Meridian.
