Allegory

a story or tale with two or more levels of meaning- a literal level and one or more symbolic levels

Alliteration

Repetition of initial consonant sounds

Allusion

A reference to a well-known person, place, event, literary work, or work of art

Analogy

makes a comparison between two or more things that are similar in some ways but otherwise unalike

Ancedote

a brief story told to entertain or make a point

Antagonist

A character or force in conflict with the main character

Archetype

type of character, detail, image, or situation that appears in literature throughout history

argument

a logical way to present a belief, conclusion, or stance. a good argument is supported with reasoning or evidence

Aside

A short speech delivered by a character in a play in order to express his or her true thoughts and feelings

Assonance

Repetition of a vowel sound within two or more words in close proximity
