respect the inherent dignity and worth of a person. treat each person in a caring and respectful fashion, mindful of individual differences an cultural and ethical diversity. Change, not forcing change.

recognize the central importance of human relationship. relationships are important vehicles for change. strengthen relationships. Its a partnership.

integrity

behave in a trustworthy manner.

Competence

practice within their areas of competence and develop and enhance their professional expertise. Dont try and counsel on areas that you do not know well.

Ethical responsibilities: Self-determination

clients have a say in how they want to be treated and what services they receive. May limit clients right to self determination when when clients actions or potential actions pose a threat/risk to themselves or others

ethical responsibilities: informed consent

can only provide services when appropriate, on valid informed consent. inform client of risks, limits of services, cost, alternatives, right to terminate and time frame of consent. May have to get third party consent for minors,elderly, or disabled.

ethical responsibilities: conflicts of interest

don't take unfair advantage. Do not cross ethical boundaries. No dual or multiple relationships with clients. No dating or sexual relationships with client or clients family.

ethical responsibilities: privacy and confidentiality

respect rights to privacy. some exceptions apply, danger, court etc. no third parties. clients come first. protect the clients.

ethical responsibilities: sexual relationships

under no circumstances engage in sexual activities or sexual contact with clients (Consensual or not) No relatives or family relationships. No former clients. clients best interest at all times; past, present,and future.

ethical responsibilities: Physical contact

No caressing or holding.
