Why did Albert Camus say the most imp Q was "what is the MOL?

MOL Q is a Q people are willing to die for. People die for what makes life worth living. Not for the Ontological Arg. Galileo abandoned truth when his life was at stake.

theistic solution to the meaning of life?

MOL has something to do with the existence of God or belief in the existence of God. ie we're here to know God or to fulfill his plan.

criticism of theistic solution to MOL.

disbelief/nonbelief. if u don't agree w/ the beliefs, your life is meaningless.
"So What?" -- you finish life and then get to heaven or wherever u go... then what?

Verificationist approach to MOL (Meaning of Life)?

MOL is a meaningless question. A sentence has meaning only if it can be verified as true or false.

Criticism of Verificationist Response to MOL?

Can't be applied to itself.

Linguistic approach to MOL?

category mistake -- that's not even a question you can ask. ex: "Can u invite Wednesday over for dinner?" -- treats the Q of MOL as an improper Q. Literally meaningless.

Eternal return? Motivation for thinking that way?

the wish/want to eternally repeat your life exactly how it happened, and that gives it meaning. motiv: that it doesn't rely on another realm to give ur life meaning. crit: it's selfish.. everyone has to go through their stuff too.

nihilism?

view that there are no universal views or values. no good or evil.

crit of nihilism?

practically impossible. it's a psychological issue. everyone values something. from the way u park ur car to helping someone for karma. it's a universal value that there are no univ. values.

Quote by Ludwig Wittgenstein.

justification of beliefs -- theres a lack. it brings humbleness.. we don't know everything.
2 ex: mind body problem, foreknowledge.
