Matter and its states

Physical Change

when a substance's physical properties are changed but ?it is still the same substance.

Chemical Change

reaction occurs and a new substance is formed and energy is given off or absorbed.

Phase change

a physical change that results in a substance changing from one state of matter to another.

Solid

the state of matter that has a fixed shape and volume

Liquid

the state of matter that has a fixed volume but it adapts to the shape of the container

Gas

the state in which matter has no fixed volume or shape.

Plasma

the state of matter that contains particles that are electrically charged

Viscosity

how much a liquid resists flowing or moving.

Freezing

when matter changes from a liquid to a solid

Melting

when matter changes from a solid to a liquid

Condensation

when matter changes from a gas to a liquid

Evaporation

when matter changes from a liquid to a gas

Sublimation

when matter changes from a solid to a gas

Deposition

when matter changes from a gas to a solid

Gas Pressure

how hard the gas particles are pushing against their container.

Boyle's Law

as the volume of a gas goes down the pressure goes up.

Charles Law

as the temperature of a gas goes up its volume goes up.
