A combination of ingredients whose physical properties stay the same when mixed. Easy to separate.

Mixture

A combination of ingredients whose physical properties change when mixed. Usually requires evaporation to separate.

Solution

Anything that has mass and takes up space.

Matter

The physical forms of matter, which include solid, liquid, and gas.

States of Matter

The amount of matter in an object.

Mass

A measure of the force of gravity on an object.

Weight

The measure of the amount of matter in an object.

Density

The force of attraction or repulsion of magnetic materials.

Magnetism

The ability to dissolve in another substance.

Solubility

A material that allows heat and electricity to easily pass through it.

Conductor

A material that does not allow heat or electricity to pass through it easily.

Insulator

A factor that can change in an experiment.

Variable

What we see, touch, taste, smell, or hear.

Observation

To make an educated guess based on evidence within a picture, text, chart, or graph.

Inference

A push or pull.

Force

A force that resists the motion of two surfaces sliding against each other.

Frictional Force

An attractive force that acts between any two objects.
