Chapter 12

Alkali Metal

Metals in Group 1, Valence electron = 1, most reactive, give away one outer level electron

Alkaline Earth Metals

Metals in Group 2, Valence electron= 2, not as reactive as Group 1

Transition Metals

Groups 3-12, Valence Electrons=1to2 shiny, good conductor of thermal energy and electrical current, high density

Halogens

group 17; contains nonmetals; 7 electrons in its outermost energy level; very reactive of the non metals; never in its uncombined form in nature; combine with metals to form salts

Noble Gases

8 Valence electrons; non-metallic elements in group 18 of the periodic table which contain the most stable and unreactive elements

Valence electrons

Electrons in the outer most energy level
